We All Need Each Other To Make It In The World

It is interesting to me how flowers grow in groups. Sometimes different kinds, and other times blooming before the others. Such is the case of life itself ...

I have been thinking about groups lately for a few reasons.

First, I’ve been working with my Catholic parish coordinating a men’s group to meet about once a month to discuss the Sunday Gospel. Looks as if, after the pandemic, that will start to meet in-person again soon.

Second, I read an article recently how the key to developing a mega-church is to have many small groups. And you thought it was about the preaching? ... Well, so did I.

And finally, I’m seeing a movement of people who see the best way to use social media today is for developing their participation in analog groups offline. Turns out, our brains are not able to keep up with being on screens all the time.

We all need each other to make it in the world, and this is one reason why belonging to groups of interest is important in life. But it all depends on our outlook.

This makes me think how the late Fulton Sheen used to say:

"There are two ways of waking up in the morning. One is to say, 'Good morning, God,' and the other is to say, 'Good God, morning'!"
