Struggle and Pleasure
Many times we take a walk through the woods to add balance and pleasure to our lives from stress and struggle.
It's healthy to take a walk, and pleasure is a good thing. Our society, though, I think has to keep this in the right perspective.
Many people believe that pleasure and freedom mean we can do what we want, when we want. But, true pleasure and freedom is to do what we aught to.
Goals and discipline = freedom.
In other words, it is through our giving that we receive back so much more. So, pleasure to me does not mean what can I do for me, but rather how does what I do for me benefit others.
When I go for a walk in the woods, for example, does it help clear my mind to see a project or family matter more clearly. The end result always has to be outward thinking.
It is through our struggles, and serving others, that we become a better person.
If we are a Catholic, or a Christian, it's important to remind ourselves that we go through struggles because we love Jesus. Just as He did on the Cross because of His love for us.
