What I Learned from Business in 2018

I would like to thank all of you who subscribe to this mailing list, and those of you who purchase my works, for your attention and business in 2018. Since I started selling my artwork online in 2013 this has been a huge learning curve, compared to the other types of photography that I have produced over the past 30 + years. Without you I have nothing more than an (expensive) hobby.

What I have learned about business in 2018 is to stick to the formulas that I have learned both from being raised in a family-owned business, and the formulas of the late and great Henry Ford.

For example, if you look at the Ford Motor Company over the years, when the CEO moved away from the formula of the Founder the company went into a slump, and when the family hired a CEO that committed to the formula of the founder the business saw much prosperity. I have experienced the same thing ….

…. There is a mind set in business to buy low and then sell high. Yet there is another mind set to provide quality work at a fair price. One of the main reasons that I sell my works on Fine Art America is because of the business model: quality products with lean overhead and no investors, and an automated production from the main office to your door step.

In other words, the purpose of business is to serve the customer with a product that can be put to good use. Thus, making a profit is not about raising prices, or lowering quality, rather you cut expenses through finding new ways in tweaking and improving systems.

There are artists who on Fine Art America can ask a high price for their works, and that is their frame of mind. I don't argue with that. When I started a few short years ago, I followed the business behaviors of some artist on Fine Art America who are top sellers, as well as some artist advice gurus who seem to know the business well. So for 2018 I decided to stick with my gut feeling instead and go back to the formulas that I grew up with, and it proved to be more correct than ever.

And that is, my works are priced to be affordable to the masses. No discount code needed. Because I want you to enjoy my work, and bring a sense of purpose or meaning to your life each day of the year -- even if just a simple greeting card to frame.

So for 2019 I intend to serve you by producing quality works at a fair price. I am grateful for your business.

Thank you!

A Happy and Blessed New Year to you!!

Frank
