Its the First Day of Autumn

As I'm writing this from my back yard, the aroma from the neighbor's wood fire is teasing through the morning air. I look out at the yards and yards of trees, the leaves are transitioning from green to yellow, brown, orange, gold, and red. The chipmunks rustle through the fallen leaves, and the squirrels hop along the fence tops searching and preparing for Winter.

Much like the seasons of life, Autumn brings with it changes from the past year with a new hope for the new year to come. I love the month of October mostly because the weather is mild (between A/C and heating bills) as it is the most colorful month of the year. The sunlight is low and has this golden glow, which casts deep shadows that define the beauty of God's creation.

The landscape every day is a new painting from Mother Nature, and with each new color is like another brush stroke of perfection. Though here in the Mid-West, the colors change mostly towards the end of the month ( around my Birthday, which is a yearly gift! ), you can just feel the anticipation in the community at the local Harvest Fest and the Saturday morning Farmer's Market.

There seems this 'slowness' as people are back from summer vacation and settled into school or work schedules, and there are no major events or holidays or those usual things that keep us all busy.

Most of all October is a time to catch up with friends and relationships, to sit around the bon fires and to share and learn about life. Pumpkins, coffee, cider, s'mores, and apple pie.
